Welcome to the Culture Routes in Turkey

Turkey is a huge country, with thousands of years of history, wild and beautiful scenery and friendly and hospitable people. Turkey’s maze of old roads and trails are now being opened, combined into long-distance cultural routes and clusters of day-walks.

The first long-distance route was the Lycian Way, which was launched 10 years ago, and has inspired other Turkish and international trail-builders. Trails in Turkey are still in their infancy – but developing fast.

This site tells you about the parts of Turkey where you can trek, the types of walks you can do and other activities like biking  or horse-riding on the routes.

From this site you can buy a guidebook to most of the routes. You can find a tour operator to suit you, or information about trekking independently.  It also gives you links to all the background information you need to plan an active holiday exploring Turkey’s Cultural Routes.

Most routes now have a guide book with a route-map, many are waymarked, all have GPS points. Mapping in Turkey is not as developed as in the rest of Europe, so the GPS points are a welcome asset for independent walkers. Groups or individuals can take advantage of escort or guiding services on some routes,  join ready-made groups or choose a self-guided package.

All the routes give you a chance to enjoy varied accommodation which mix village home stays with small, family pensions. For those who prefer comfort,  higher standards of accommodation can often be found in nearby towns and sections of routes can be visited with daywalks. More mature routes like the Lycian Way have plenty of group walks or self-guided options, easy communications, a huge range of accommodation and are still not over-used.
