Biking Routes
There are no restrictions on using bikes on the routes. Most of the routes are suitable, at least in part, for energetic mountain biking. However, if you are biking with your gear in panniers, forestry tracks or dirt road at moderate gradients are more enjoyable. The following routes are suitable for organised biking tours or comfortable individual touring. Several agencies and guides will organise biking tours for groups. Some can provide bikes, or you can bring your own bike by air to Turkey.
You could bike on these routes:
| Route | Bike Rating | Guided groups? | Waymarked /GPS/map? |
| Çoruh/Kaçkar routes | Hard mountain biking only | Yes | GPS, map |
| Evliya Çelebi Way | medium | Yes | GPS, map |
| Hittite routes | medium | Yes | Waymarked, some GPS, map |
| Independence Way | Easy but hilly | No | Waymarked, GPS |
| Sultan’s Trail | Easy and flat | No | Waymarked, GPS, |
| Yenice Forest Routes | Easy-medium | Yes | Waymarked, GPS, map |
Biking on busy roads in Turkey is often dangerous. There are very few road bikers, especially in cities, and the average driver is not used to leaving space for bikers. You can ride straight out of the airports, but you should take great care, especially until you get used to the traffic. Inter-city and specially minor roads are much emptier than European roads and biking on these can be a real pleasure. Remember that if you bring your bike, you also should bring some spares, as you cannot guarantee to get the parts you may need.
