The Culture Routes Society was happy to coordinate a visit by Noel van Bemmel, the travel editor of leading Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, to the St. Paul Trail in early November.

In partnership with Middle Earth Travel, Noel and a photographer were escorted to several of the trail highlights over the course of three days. While the trip was short, we managed to fit in some beautiful hikes on Roman roads across the route, visits to the ruins of Adada, Aspendos and Selge, stunning mountain vistas with their first traces of the winter snow and the incredible Koprulu Canyon.

Noel was particularly interested in the villages along the St. Paul Trail and how villagers were preserving their traditional ways of life in the face of the pressures of urbanization. He even spent a night sleeping in an old school building that has been converted into a guesthouse for hikers along the trail.

We look forward to reading Noel’s work when it comes out and would be happy to host him again when he gets a chance to return to Turkey.
