The Kaçkar Mountains in Northeastern Turkey are a mountain-lover’s dream

Megan’s Blog

If there were ever a concrete argument for befriending strangers, the Kaçkar Mountains in Eastern Turkey would be it. And since today is Valentine’s Day, it seemed fitting to write about two of the things I love most: nature and travel buddies.

It’s taken me a while to write about this part of my trip to Turkey because there are so many elements that went into it, some purely logistical (it’s not an easy place to get to if you don’t know about it) and others a bit more thoughtful (I’m still oozing gratefulness at having been shown this place.)

Isn’t that one of the most difficult parts about being a travel writer? We want to provide useful, actionable information that simultaneously tells a story and evokes feeling, without being too wordy and annoying. It’s a tough job, but still we try.

Anyway, let’s get down to business.
