On 1 November 2024 Cultural Routes Society joined forces with seven international partners in a new European project “DETOUR: Developing Resilient Tourism Ecosystems along Mediterranean Routes”.

Funded by the European Union under the SMP programme, DETOUR aims to facilitate access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located along some of Europe’s most scenic rural routes and trails, such as the Via Francigena in Italy, the Lycian Way in Turkey, the Sultan’s Trail in Bulgaria, and a network of mountain routes in Greece.

With an overall budget of 2 million euros and a three-year duration, Cultural Routes Society is committed, through the DETOUR project, to promoting sustainable tourism and supporting the digital transformation of the tourism sector. Our organisation will be particularly involved in the conducting the SME’s survey and analysis, determination the capacity building needs of all SME’s, define the digital products which act as an interface between SME’s and route users and developing training in this area.

The project, led by the Municipality of Fidenza, involves partners from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and the Netherlands, aiming to enhance tourism experiences and increase the services along the rural routes all in line with the principles of sustainable development, innovation and climate change management.
